The Charity and Fundraising:

The Mongol Rally, however, has never been solely about the adventure. The Adventurists is committed to every team helping make the world a far better place. Each team must raise at least £1000 for charity. The first £500 will go to the official Adventurist charity, Cool Earth; the second £500 and anything more we raise can go to a charity of our choice, which will be streetfootballworld.

All four of us grew up with soccer as a defining and formative part of our lives. We understand the power soccer has to promote change and so decided to help raise money for streetfootballworld. A worldwide network which spans 62 countries, connecting 101 non-profit organizations across the world, streetfootballworld works to unite people from all different backgrounds and help them through soccer. They are the leading global organization in the field of 'soccer for social change,' and help address social issues like gender inequality, lack of education, HIV/AIDS, discrimination, and unemployment. By working with partners from the worlds of sport, business, politics, philanthropy, and social enterprise, streetfootballworld brings global support to sustainable local initiatives. The organization describes, "Once [people] are on the pitch, it is easy to transform their passion for the game into meaningful life skills, boosting their employability, teaching them about health risks or fostering peaceful reconciliation between rival groups." streetfootballworld understands soccer as a crucial and important utility for social change across the globe, and we are excited help them and their partners through our fundraising.

The official Adventurist charity is Cool Earth, an environmental charity that partners with Amazonian tribes to help protect the rain forests of the Amazon. The Adventurists comically describe their philanthropic choice to sponsor this charity by saying:

"We've been banging on about saving the world for ages and we've raised stupendous amounts of money for a load of amazing charities (4.4 million GBP and counting). So we sat down at HQ and pondered on what we could do that will actually save the world and continue the fight to make it less boring. Then it hit us like a well-polished brogue to the nuts: "we must save every rainforest in the world so future generations have somewhere to get stuck." Not because we're tree hugging sandal weavers, but because the world would be shit without them. It's not just about the carbon, the point is rain forests are indescribably excellent."

We are raising money for Cool Earth for their Ashanika Project. The village of Cutivireni in Peru, along the Western Amazon, was offered a logging contract that would have committed them to selling off their rainforest. The village elder, Cesar Bustamante, contacted Cool Earth to help them turn away the loggers. The Ashaninka project was born. Since then, 14 of Cutivireni’s neighboring villages have joined the project and not a single tree has been lost. These villages are the only ones in the valley with zero logging. This protected forest is forming a shield for the adjacent Communal Reserve and National Park, making millions of acres of neighboring forest inaccessible to loggers. Supporting this project will add to the shield and help our Ashaninka partners keep their forest standing.
